Anna Wintour is most known for her now-former title of editor-in-chief of Vogue, but she’s also carried the titles of wife, mom and even grandma.
The media executive, who announced that she was stepping down from her editor-in-chief position in June 2025, was first married to child psychiatrist David Shaffer in 1984. The pair welcomed two children, Charles and Bee, before their divorce more than 10 years later.
Wintour then moved on with investor Shelby Bryan, whom she married in 2004. However, the former couple’s split was confirmed in 2020, with a source telling People that they had quietly called off their marriage “years ago.”
Though Wintour and Bryan did not welcome any kids together during their marriage, the fashion icon is now a grandmother after her and David’s kids welcomed children with their respective spouses.

David Shaffer
David and Wintour were married from 1984 to 1999. The South-African born British-American physician and pediatrician worked as a professor at Columbia University in addition to acting as the chief of pediatric psychiatry at New York–Presbyterian Hospital and the chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at New York State Psychiatric Institute.
Prior to his marriage to Wintour, David was married to Serena Bass, with whom he shared two children. The pair divorced in 1983.
David died from respiratory failure at 87 years old in October 2023.
Charles Shaffer

Wintour and David welcomed son Charles in July 1985. He graduated from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2016, following in his dad’s footsteps by specializing in psychiatry.
Prior to Columbia, Charles studied at Oxford University, where met his now-wife Elizabeth Cordry. The pair tied the knot at Wintour’s weekend home in Mastic Beach, New York, in 2014.
Bee Shaffer
Wintour and David also shared daughter Bee, whom they welcomed in July 1987. Bee also graduated from Columbia University in 2009 and went on to become a producer with Ambassador Theatre Group.
In 2018, Bee married Francesco Carrozzini, the son of late Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia‘s editor-in-chief. Like her older brother, Bee and her now-husband tied the knot at Anna’s home in Mastic, New York.

Wintour married business executive Bryan in 2004, but the pair quietly split sometime before 2020. Prior to his marriage to Wintour, Bryan was married twice: first to Lucia Bryan, with whom he shares two daughters, and then to Katherine Bryan, with whom he shares two sons.
Caroline, Ella and Oliver
Wintour became a grandmother when David and Cordry welcomed daughters Caroline and Ella. Later, Bee and Carrozzini welcomed son Oliver.
Wintour revealed in September 2024 that she loves being a grandma.

“I’d love more, but that might be it. No, they’re great. They’re great,” she said on Sony’s “Origins with Cush Jumbo” podcast.
Though Wintour said her grandkids simply call her “Anna” today, they had an unusual nickname for her when they were younger.
“When they were little, they always saw me with … we have three dogs, with the dogs. So they used to call me dog. But you know, I’m the lady with the three dogs,” she explained.
