Food Network star Anne Burrell welcomed Today into her home nearly a year before her death, showing hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager her “land of color.”

Burrell died in her home on June 18 at age 55. A cause of death has not been revealed.

The morning show segment, which aired in June 2024 and has since been resurfaced, included Burrell giving a tour of her newly renovated Brooklyn apartment, from the kitchen and living area to her reimagined outdoor terrace. She also showed photos of what the apartment looked like before she moved in — a modest living space with outdated appliances and nothing that would indicate the Worst Cooks in America cohost would soon live there.

“It was a space with lots of great bones but in desperate need of some love and a facelift,” she said in the video. “I wanted a land of color and joy and where people come in and are like, ‘Oh, it’s comfortable here.’”

The crown jewel of the apartment was, naturally, the kitchen, which she expanded with plenty of additional counter and cabinet space, updated appliances and color. She also showed off a smaller touch: cabinet knobs that her husband says resemble garlic bulbs.

Burrell then took viewers through her collection of knickknacks lining her kitchen, including several chickens and roosters.

“Tchotchkes just give me joy,” she said. “I totally get the minimalist thing for some people. I’m more of a maximalist.”

Ever the inviting host, Burrell said that she always makes visitors their first drink. She also provided lunch for Kotb, 60, and Bush Hager, 43, which she sampled before signing off. Burrell prepared a summer crostini with ricotta cheese, prosciutto, a pesto drizzle, sliced nectarine and an arugula side salad.

A year later, Burrell was found unresponsive in the Brooklyn home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” read a statement provided by her family to Us Weekly. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in 2021, and her stepson, Javier.

“We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning,” Food Network wrote in a statement. “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent — teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.
