Celebs React to ‘Charmed’ Star Julian McMahon’s Death

Celebrities are paying tribute to Nip/Tuck and Charmed star Julian McMahon after his death at age 56 following a private cancer battle.

Stars flocked to social media to share heartfelt tributes to the late actor after his wife announced the sad news of his passing via a statement made to Deadline on Friday, July 4.

“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” Kelly told the outlet via a statement.

She added: “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

The actor played Cole Turner in 47 episodes of Charmed from 2000 to 2005, and several of his former costars were among those mourning his loss.

“Sad day for our Charmed family!” Brian Krause, 56, wrote alongside a photo of McMahon shared via his Instagram. “Julian was one of the funniest, devilishly handsome and kind souls! Prayers to his family and close friends!  He will surely be missed! 🙏🙏🙏

Sharing an illustrated artwork of McMahon depicted as an angel via her Instagram Story, Rose McGowan, 51, wrote, “Oh Julian, you force of brilliance, wild talent and humor. For you, your family and loving fans all over the world, I pray comfort.”

Meanwhile, Holly Marie Combs, 51, shared a montage of throwback moments of the pair together on Charmed as well as hanging out offset as she commemorated McMahon.

“One of a kind is an understatement. Your unyielding zest for life and crazy making sense of humor will be sorely missed,” she captioned the post. “The joy and laughter you were the direct cause of will always be remembered. I hope you find our lady friend and dance in those rose petals. 🌹

Alyssa Milano, who played McMahon’s onscreen love interest in the series described his death as “too soon” and “too unfair” in her lengthy tribute.

“I’m heartbroken,” Milano, 52, wrote. “Julian McMahon was magic. That smile. That laugh. That talent. That presence. He walked into a room and lit it up—not just with charisma, but with kindness. With mischief. With soulful understanding.”

As well as McMahon’s Charmed costars, the actor’s colleagues from other acting projects also publicly mourned the loss of the star.

Ioan Gruffudd, who worked alongside McMahon on the Fantastic Four movies, also paid tribute.

“This is terribly sad news about Julian,” Gruffudd, 51, wrote. “Even though we played each other’s nemeses, there was always so much lightness and laughter working together. Every encounter with him was a joy.”

He added, “It was an honor to be Dr. Richards to his Dr. Doom. My heart goes out to his wife and family. God speed Julian.”

McMahon’s Nip/Tuck costar, Kelly Carlson, who portrayed his character’s lover interest for seven years uploaded an emotional video via her Instagram as she reacted to the news.

“Oh my gosh, I’m completely shocked and saddened by it,” Carlson, 49, said in the footage. “I didn’t know he wasn’t well for a while.”

Nicolas Cage, who starred alongside McMahon in the recent film, The Surfer, paid tribute in a statement shared with Deadline.

“Such deeply saddening news. I spent six weeks working with Julian, and he was the most talented of actors,” Cage, 61, said in the statement. “Our scenes together on The Surfer were amongst my favorites I have ever participated in, and Julian is one of my favorite people. He was a kind and intelligent man. My love to his family.”
