Christine Baranski's Rep Responds to King Princess Dating Speculation

Christine Baranski is addressing the speculation around her relationship status with King Princess.

“Christine and King Princess are strictly friends and nothing more,” Baranski’s rep said in a statement to Page Six on Friday, August 22. “They have never been in a relationship, nor are they now.”

The rep added that all the discussion about the pair is “pure speculation.”

Baranski, 73, and King Princess, 26, made headlines after they walked the red carpet together for Mamma Mia’s return to Broadway on Monday, August 18. Baranski famously played Tanya in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical.

The actress donned a sequined silver suit and a pair of sunglasses. The singer (real name Mikaela Mullaney Straus) rocked a newspaper print button-down blouse with black trousers, a studded belt, multiple silver necklaces and sunglasses.

The twosome were photographed holding hands at the occasion. Following the event, King Princess shared several photos from the night on her social media and her caption raised eyebrows among some fans.

“#LoveIsLove,” she wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, August 20.

King Princess and Baranski met last year on the set of Nine Perfect Strangers season 2. Baranski starred as Victoria, an elderly woman battling ALS. King Princess made her acting debut on the Hulu drama as Tina, a pianist who is dating Wolfie, portrayed by Maisie Richardson-Sellers.

Baranski formed a fast friendship with the “1950” singer.

“We sat at the bar, ordered our martinis and suddenly we’re talking about our grandmothers who deeply affected and influenced our lives,” Baranski recalled of meeting King Princess to Interview Magazine in May. I think that’s where we profoundly bonded.”

The Mamma Mia actress added that King Princess is a “wildly talented young woman who’s so opinionated, deeply funny and witty” and referred to their friendship as “the greatest gift.”

“We’ve curiously bonded and wanted to remain friends. That’s a great gift,” she gushed.

Baranski was previously married to Matthew Cowles. The couple shared two daughters: Lily and Isabel. Baranski and Cowles tied the knot in 1983 and remained together until his death in 2014. Cowles died of congestive heart failure at age 69.

“A few months after Matthew passed away, I had to be back in front of a camera — but it helped to be with my community of people,” she said in a 2018 interview with Parade. “They all knew and loved me, so going back to work was good.”

King Princess has been previously romantically linked to Amandla Stenberg and creative director Quinn Wilson.
