Dexter: Resurrection introduced fans to the next chapter in Dexter’s journey with a new adversary hot on his trail — but what can viewers expect in season 2?
During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Kadia Saraf broke down the biggest burning questions about where the story goes from here after Dexter (Michael C. Hall) escaped from Leon Prater’s (Peter Dinklage) grasp — only for Angel Batista (David Zayas) to end up as a fatality in the crossfire.
Saraf, 48, who plays Detective Claudette Wallace, weighed in on how her character is taking over in Batista’s place, saying, “When she finds him [dead], that’s when it dawns on Claudette that there was something that she approached as logic but could have been a little bit more personal for her to actually capture what he was trying to say [before he was killed]. There’s an understanding there.”
The first season of the revival reintroduced Batista, who was determined to prove that Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher. This took him to New York where Dexter was now living — in addition to his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), a prime suspect in a different murder case being investigated by Claudette and Detective Melvin Oliva (Dominic Fumusa).

Batista was following a hunch that Claudette didn’t believe in because the evidence didn’t back it up (despite him being correct that his former friend was a serial killer, along with his son).
“The last scene in the vault where Claudette finds Batista and then puts the hat on him, [it is a reference to] when she takes away Batista’s title. Then in the finale she gives it back to him,” she explained. “It’s really very special.”

Saraf is intrigued about where their dynamic will take the story next. “I trust the writers fully. But it is clear to Claudette in the finale that she is going — in some way — the work that he didn’t complete,” she teased. “She’s not gonna give up. I assume Dexter is not gonna give up.”
She continued: “There are endless possibilities here. It can go back and forth. I just think the tension is going to stay there. Dexter is going to try to get away with murder and Claudette is going to try to catch him or bring justice — if she finds out who he really is and has the proof.”
In the finale, Dexter dumped Prater’s body in the ocean after keeping some of his files about other active serial killers in the area. Dexter also left a little gift for Claudette in the form of the file on the New York Ripper, who she was chasing for years.
“The finale ended with Claudette and Oliva seeing who the New York Ripper is. Now we can start doing the work,” she explained. “Now we can run with that. So that alone is exciting.”

Saraf also teased how Claudette’s interactions with Dexter will differ from the interactions she’ll have with his son, adding, “I think Claudette does see something in Harrison. She might not show him that she has a little bit of a soft spot for him. But maybe because he’s young or maybe because she does see the sensitivity and the vulnerability in him that he’s not fully on that.”
Season 2 would presumably keep building on that juxtaposition. Saraf is looking forward to seeing more of Claudette — and maybe learning about her life outside of work.
“What’s really interesting to explore is how she is at home, what she does when she gets home, if she ever dates and what that looks like. I’m curious to know about her relationship with family and how that informed her hyper focus and the absolute survival need to solve a case,” she told Us. “This isn’t just something that is taught. This is a result of something that happened. I would like to explore that for sure. Mostly I would like to see her in private spaces, in private moments and see what that looks like. That for me — and the audience — would be very special.”
Dexter: Resurrection is currently streaming on Paramount+.
