The movie depicts the story of 17 children from Justine Gandy’s (Garner) third grade class who go missing in Maybrook, Pennsylvania. Parents of the students, including Archer Graff (Brolin), are determined to find their children after home security footage reveals all of the kids left their homes at 2:17 a.m. and ran into the darkness. Archer, like most of the parents, initially believes Justine is the one who abducted the kids.

How Does ‘Weapons’ End?
Midway through the film, Alex’s aunt Gladys is introduced as a sickly woman who is staying with the Lilly’s for an undisclosed period of time. It turns out, she is quite the evil mastermind, performing witchcraft on members of the community to manipulate their minds.
She uses her rituals to essentially turn Alex’s parents into brainwashed zombie-like beings. Gladys also manipulates Marcus (Wong) to get him to try and kill Justine. A woman accidentally hits Marcus with her car as he is chasing Justine, killing him instantly.

Once Archer realizes Justine is not the brains behind the strange activity going on in town, they decide to search Alex’s home for clues. At the home, they find police officer Paul Morgan (Ehrenreich) in a catatonic state along with Alex’s parents and neighborhood drug addict James (Abrams). Justine and Archer fight them off and Archer goes down to the basement to find all 17 missing children, including his son, Matthew (Luke Speakman), in a hypnotic state.
Gladys hypnotizes Archer to try and get him to kill Justine. The real hero of the story is Alex, who, while running for his life, performs a ritual to get everyone out from under Gladys’ spell. Once the kids wake up from the trance, they chase Gladys through the neighborhood before tackling her to the ground and ripping her apart, limb from limb.
What Happened to Alex in ‘Weapons’?
After Archer is reunited with Matthew, the narrator of the story explains that some of the children are still scarred from the experience years later, while others have just started talking again. The narrator also says Alex has gone on to live with a much kinder aunt because his parents, unfortunately, were still in a catatonic state and institutionalized.
