Dua Lipa Speaks Out About Controversial White 'Naked' Wedding Guest Dress

Dua Lipa finally set the record straight on the story behind her white wedding guest outfit in 2022 and why she broke the biggest fashion rule at the event

“This outfit kind of caused a little bit of a stir,” Lipa, 29, said while chatting with Harper’s Bazaar in a clip posted via X on Tuesday, August 19. She explained that the grooms, Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri, asked their guests to wear all white.

“I don’t know why I got so much stick for it,” Lipa said while laughing. “I think also because I was kind of quite naked for it as well.” The singer went on to share that perhaps the sheer silhouette was the reason behind the chatter surrounding her look, but Jacquemus designed the dress himself.

“So it was at his request that I wore this dress to his wedding,” she elaborated. “I absolutely loved it. I felt so good in it,” she gushed. “It was just unbelievable. I feel like I talk about that wedding still to this day.”

Lipa’s dress featured short sleeves and a semi-sheer neckline that covered her bust. The look from Jacquemus’ fall/winter 2022 collection featured 3-D flowers, and exposed her white underwear. It was adorned with exposed seams, a thigh-high slit and was finished with a delicate train.

Lipa styled the dress with nude strappy sandals and floral earrings. She added a touch of contrast with a black leather purse complete with a twisted strap.

For glam, she donned soft makeup including a shimmering gold eyeshadow, long lashes and pink lips. Her dark brunette hair was parted down the middle and styled in a sleek blowout.

At the time, some fans questioned “why” she would wear a sheer white dress to a wedding, not knowing that it was a sartorial choice honoring the dress code.
