Stassney Brown, the ex-wife of Los Angeles Chargers star Rashawn Slater, slammed a report that the couple’s divorce played a role in his recent contract negotiations.

Slater, 26, signed a four-year, $114 million extension with the Chargers on Sunday, July 27, according to ESPN. The Chargers confirmed the deal, but did not release financial details.

After the contract news was announced, NFL social media personality Dov Kleinman, who boasts over 340,000 followers on X, brought Slater and Brown’s recent divorce into the fold.

“Talk about good timing 👏👏,” Kleinman posted on Sunday

Brown took to social media to refute Kleinman’s insinuation, calling it “deplorable.”

“I hold nothing but support for Rashawn,” Brown posted via X on Sunday. “His contract is not about me. I think we should focus on what’s most important here, and that is his career and his success. Please stop including me in this narrative.”

She added, “He deserves his moment.”

It is not clear exactly when Slater and Brown’s divorce was finalized. The couple got married in March 2022.

Slater celebrated his new contract with a post via Instagram on Sunday, sharing a picture surrounded by his family as he put pen to paper.

“Blessed to accomplish a dream of mine with my family by my side,” he wrote. “None of this happens without these people and so many others who have supported me along the way. Just getting started, LFG!”

The contract makes Slater the highest-paid offensive lineman by average annual pay in NFL history.

Slater was selected by the Chargers with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The offensive tackle’s first four seasons in the NFL have seen him get selected to two Pro Bowls and get named a second-team All Pro twice. Slater’s sophomore season in 2022 was cut short after rupturing his bicep tendon in the Chargers’ third game, which caused him to miss the team’s remaining schedule.

Chargers quarterback, Justin Herbert, gushed about Slater’s impact on the team, both on and off the field, during an interview last season.

“Rashawn is such a great teammate, great locker room guy,” Herbert, 27, said. “He’s competitive, very smart, very intelligent.”

Fellow Chargers tackle Joe Alt, drafted with the fifth overall pick by the team in the 2024 NFL Draft, said Slater has taught him “a ton.”

“Rashawn being able to have so much experience and being right there with me and being able to watch the film has been such a big help for me,” Alt told Chargers.com last season. “It’s allowed me to see what things in my game I need to work on and what things I’m trying different that don’t need to be added.”

Slater has not been practicing while nursing a minor injury, but he’s expected to be ready when the Chargers open their regular season schedule on September 5 in Brazil against the Kansas City Chiefs.
