Kirk Cousins might be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in NFL history, but he still feels right at home in a strip mall hair salon.
Cousins, 36, who has made nearly $300 million over the course of his 13-year NFL career, gushed about his appreciation of discount chain Great Clips on season two of Netflix’s docuseries Quarterback, which premiered on Tuesday, July 8.
“I go to one place, and that’s Great Clips,” the Atlanta Falcons quarterback explained about his haircut routine. “I can go on the app. I can see what the wait is. If the wait time is under 15 minutes, I just sign up.”
Cousins continued, “I can just drive there, walk right in and get right in the chair.”

The former Michigan State star also comes to each Great Clips appointment equipped with an example of what he’d like his finished product to look like: his own headshot.
“Now I start just holding up a picture,” Cousins said. “I took a picture from one of the headshots from a Falcons game program and I just say, ‘Can you do this?’ That usually helps eliminate any gray area.”

During the fifth episode of Quarterback’s season two, Cousins can be seen telling his hairstylist, “I’ve been trusting Great Clips for a long time. I kind of live all over the country. I just kind of Google the nearest Great Clips and make it work. It’s hard to have a go-to barber when you’re always on the go.”
Cousins — who was born in Michigan and played in the NFL for the Washington Commanders and Minnesota Vikings before signing with the Falcons in March 2024 — said being a Great Clips loyalist provides his life with a bit of thrill and danger.

“The biggest challenge is when you don’t have the same person,” he explained in a confessional. “So like Great Clips in Inver Grove, Minnesota, Great Clips in Holland, Michigan, Great Clips in Suwanee, Georgia. You just don’t know what you’re going to get.”
As Cousins further explained to his hairstylist, “When you keep changing who cuts your hair, it’s a bit of a rush because you don’t quite know what you’re gonna get.”
He added, “Everybody needs a little rush in their lives. I get mine when I go to Great Clips to get my hair cut.”
All seven episodes of Quarterback season two are available to stream now.
