Gavin Rossdale doesn’t have many phobias, but one movie in particular left him with a long-lasting fear.
“Alfred Hitchcock f***ed me up. Birds, I have a problem with,” the singer, 59, shares exclusively in his 25 Things You Don’t Know About Me feature in the latest issue of Us Weekly, on newsstands now. “I must’ve seen The Birds when I was very young and those flapping things. Honestly, I could take on a rabid dog. I got horses. I’m okay with animals, [except] a flapping little bird in a room.”
Rossdale doesn’t have time to focus too much on his fears these days, with a new album, Bush’s I Beat Loneliness, in stores now. The frontman is spending his time writing and performing with the band, as well as enjoying quality time with his children Kingston, 19, and Zuma, 16, who have taken up music at home.

“Kingston will play an amazing song. Zuma has begun recording. I’m not even the best singer in my house anymore,” Rossdale says.
Keep scrolling for more personal stories from Rossdale, including how he feels when he’s on tour and why Calvin Klein left him starstruck:
- My go-to dish is an English roast so they get the sense of who I am from the mother country.
- My favorite season is spring because it’s full of hope; you see the sunshine and everything is possible.
- Your Friends & Neighbors with Jon Hamm is the last show I binge watched. It’s brilliantly acted, brilliantly written and just so good.
- I haven’t [done] karaoke much. The idea of going out and singing seems a bit like I’m imposing on people because I can sing.
- When I first played Madison Square Garden, I went flying up the stairs on an ego ramp, totally caught the lip and ate it a bit.
- If I can’t think of the first line of the song, I run over to someone in the band and [ask], ‘What’s the first line?’
- If I wasn’t a rockstar, I think that I would love to work in a kitchen.

- The worst job I ever had was working on building sites, cleaning out floorboards and grime of 30 years of debris.
- When I go out on tour, one thing that I will not leave the house without is a good attitude.
- New York is my favorite city to visit. I’ve got places to be, lunches to have, bars to drink at, shopping to be done, money to be wasted.
- Sometimes, I reflect on “Glycerine” and songs off the first record that changed our lives so immeasurably. I revel in their innocence.
- I never had this concept of a bucket list. The idea that if you do something that you love then you never do it again, is awful.
- The funny thing about my reviews is that they got so much better once streaming began.

- Since I’ve had kids, I’m all about the mornings.
- Alfred Hitchcock f***ed me up. I have a problem with birds. I must’ve seen The Birds when I was very young.
- I’m a bit of a hoarder. I don’t like giving stuff away.
- If I’m at home in Los Angeles, I go for a swim in my pool to decompress after a hectic day.
- I’m still enthralled by the magic of writing. Every time I write a song, I’m thrilled because I don’t come from a place of knowledge. I come from a place of, ‘Did it sound right?’
- My favorite album of all time is David Bowie’s record Ziggy Stardust.
- Kingston will play an amazing song. Zuma has begun recording. I’m not even the best singer in my house anymore.
