General Hospital star Steve Burton and his ex-wife Sheree Burton’s custody battle was resolved following months of back and forth, Us Weekly can exclusively report.

On Tuesday, August 5, court documents were filed showing Steve, 55, and Sheree, 47, recently faced off at a hearing in Orange County, California.

The judge reached his decision after hearing from Steve and Sheree’s lawyers. Per the order, the soap star will have custody of their daughter, Brooklyn, alternating weekends and one other day during the week.

Sheree will have custody of their daughter at all other times. In addition, the exes worked out a holiday and vacation schedule for custody. The judge ordered Steve and Sheree to attend coparenting therapy with both parties covering the cost.

As Us previously reported, Steve and Sheree have been in and out of court ever since he filed for divorce in 2022 after 23 years of marriage. The exes share three children: Makena, 21, Jack, 19, and Brooklyn, 10.

The split came shortly after Steve revealed Sheree was pregnant with another man’s child. “I wanted to clear something up. Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she’s expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine,” he wrote in May 2022.

He added, “We are still coparenting our three beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time.”

Sheree welcomed her fourth child, daughter Izabella, in February 2023 – which marks her first child with her then-partner, Jason Amador. The duo went on to welcome their second child together, daughter Addy, in February 2025. The couple wed in February.

In December 2023, Steve and Sheree reached a divorce settlement. They agreed to share joint legal and physical custody. The agreement stated that Steve was to pay $10,000 per month in child support. Sheree did not receive spousal support but was paid a one-time $50,000 sum.

After the divorce, Steve claimed Sheree moved to Tennessee. He said he decided to move from California to Tennessee to be closer to his kids. He said he gave up his home and kicked out the tenant in his Tennessee home.

In court documents filed in November 2024, Steve claimed Sheree then decided to move back to California despite him changing his whole life around.

Steve said, “I would not have moved to Tennessee and completely changed my life had it not been for Sheree’s decision to move there.”

He also claimed Sheree was making it hard for him to see Brooklyn.

Sheree denied Steve’s allegations that she was interfering with his custodial time or his version of events regarding Tennessee. She opposed his request for 50/50 custody time.

The court battle turned contentious quickly. Steve wrote in court documents, “Sheree has seemingly forgotten how our family ended up in his situation. It was Sheree who had an extramarital affair, became pregnant with another man’s child and immediately moved him into her home after our separation, without informing me she would be doing so.”

“The sudden change in family dynamics had to be incredibly confusing and traumatizing for Brooklyn who was only seven years old at the time,” he said.

As Us first reported, Sheree revealed Steve’s alleged income as part of the court battle. She claimed he earned approximately $100,000 per month, while she earned substantially less.

“On the other hand, I am self-employed as a fitness coach. My expenses from my business exceed my income,” Sheree said.“Therefore, my only source of income at this time is from interest and dividends from what remains of my half of the community property estate, which I invested.”
