Kim Cattrall doesn’t have a permanent role on And Just Like That, but Samantha Jones still won’t be forgotten.

During the Thursday, June 26, episode of the Sex and the City spinoff, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) reached out to Samantha via text for intel from across the pond on her new downstairs neighbor, Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake).

“They say he’s a lot of fun. Why?” Samantha writes back. When Carrie explains that “he’s living under me,” Samantha quickly replies, “I wish he was under me.”

Carrie’s impression of Duncan, a British author, was less fond after he complained about her walking around her new Gramercy Park home in high heels — without any rugs covering the hardwood floors. He even goes so far as to offer her a pair of frilly slippers to wear instead.

Despite their disagreements, Duncan and Carrie certainly have chemistry — and he’s just dashing enough to potentially be the missing piece of a love triangle between Carrie and Aidan (John Corbett) while they navigate their long-distance romance.

Carrie’s friendship with Samantha is also being tested by distance. When AJLT premiered in 2021, Carrie revealed that the pair had a falling out after she fired Samantha as her book publicist.

“She said, ‘Fine,’ and then fired me as a friend,” Carrie explained. “I understand that she was upset, but I thought I was more to her than an ATM. I always thought the four of us would be friends forever.”

Cattrall didn’t appear on screen during the show’s first season, but her character sent flowers and condolences to Carrie in the wake of Mr. Big’s (Chris Noth) death. Carrie later name-dropped Samantha during an episode of her short-lived podcast.

Showrunner Michael Patrick King previously told Us Weekly that the revival “never, ever intended” to include Cattrall “because she decided she didn’t wanna play Samantha many, many years ago.” (Cattrall declared in a 2017 Instagram comment that her “heart isn’t in it anymore” when it comes to playing Samantha.)

Everything the 'AJLT' Cast and Crew Has Said About Kim Cattrall's Cameo

“We love Kim. I love Kim. I loved her Samantha, and I knew that everybody, including myself, had invested years in those four friendships. … Story wise, I came up with the idea that Samantha’s in London because we didn’t want to kill her. We love Samantha. That’s ridiculous,” King told Us.

AJLT‘s second season, however, saw Cattrall return in full force. She made a cameo in a 2023 episode, speaking with Carrie over the phone about missing the “Last Supper” bash at her old apartment. Samantha attempted to surprise her friend with a visit from London, but her flight was delayed.

“Thank you for everything you f***ing fabulous, fabulous flat,” she said. “Ta and cheerio! And have a great night.”

Earlier this month, Cattrall opened up about the now-iconic role she played for six seasons of SATC (and two movies). “I created a fantastic character that I loved, and I put a lot of love in it,” she told The Times of London. “If I’m remembered only for that, then that’s really OK.”

And Just Like That airs on Max Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
