Brandon Blackstock’s romance with Kelly Clarkson’s former assistant Brittney Marie Jones was a “big part” of his life before his death at age 48.

“Brandon and Brittney were in a relationship, and his family was very happy and supportive,” an insider exclusively tells Us Weekly. “His children spent a lot of time with her and had grown close to her.” (Blackstock shared two children with ex-wife Clarkson: daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9. He also shared daughter Savannah, 23, and son Seth, 18, with first wife Melissa Ashworth.)

Jones, whose LinkedIn profile confirms that she worked as Blackstock’s and Clarkson’s executive management assistant at Starstruck Entertainment in Nashville from 2018 to 2020, is said to have moved states to be with Blackstock.

“Brittany moved to Montana to work with Brandon,” the source shares. “After leaving the entertainment industry, she worked with him to build Valley View Rodeo.” (Blackstock, whose divorce from Clarkson, 43, was finalized in 2022, founded the live rodeo experience in 2023, per the business’ website.)

The insider adds, “Brandon was very private, especially after leaving the entertainment industry — but his family embraced his relationship with Brittney.”

Details of their professional relationship are also outlined on Jones’ LinkedIn profile, with Jones managing the “day to day artist schedule” for the “Since U Been Gone” singer.

“Brittney worked with Kelly during Kelly and Brandon’s marriage, so Kelly has a lot of history with Brittney,” the source explains.

Jones’ LinkedIn also includes details of her working relationship with Blackstock during her time at Starstruck, including how she “managed [his] schedule … arranged meetings and calls” for him. (Blackstock served as an artists manager at the company during his time at Starstruck.)

More details into the private life of Blackstock, who died as a result of melanoma, a form of cancer, were disclosed in an online obituary posted by Axelson funeral and cremation services in Montana on Tuesday, August 12.

The tribute read, “Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana.”

It also noted that “Brandon found his way back to the mountains and the cowboy way of life he always wanted to live.”

Us confirmed Blackstock’s death via a family representative on August 7. A statement from a rep for the family detailed that Blackstock, who was married to Clarkson for seven years, died “peacefully” and was “surrounded by family.”

Dan Hollis, a coroner from the Butte-Silver Bow County in Montana, confirmed to Us on Tuesday that melanoma was the official cause of death, and the manner of death was natural causes.
