Jimmy Kimmel is grateful that he had then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman’s support when he dealt with a harrowing health scare.

“Remember when your appendix burst?” Silverman, 54, asked Kimmel, 57, on the Thursday, August 7, episode of her eponymous podcast. “Remember when your head swelled?”

Kimmel, who dated the comedian from 2002 to 2009, did, in fact, remember his hospitalization at the time.

“You saved my life that day. You really did,” he said. “We went to the hospital, and they were not treating it.”

Silverman, in response, noted that she didn’t know that Kimmel thought she saved his life — but did acknowledge her reaction in the moment.

“I do remember going, like, full Shirley MacLaine from Terms of Endearment,” she quipped. “I went bananas. I’ve never seen anyone in more pain.”

Kimmel was admitted to a local hospital, where he recalled that staffers “put [him] in a little office” while waiting to see a physician.

“They put me in a little office, you remember?” he said. “Not for me, but because there are HEPA situations where, if somebody takes a picture of me lying on the ground in a waiting room at the ER, they’re in trouble. But, they put me in a little office and then they did not come back for hours.”

Silverman, for her part, also remembered Kimmel was “keeled over in pain” with his “appendix, probably, about to burst.”

“Yeah, you never know when the appendix is going to burst, and no one was coming in,” Kimmel explained. “I do remember you got very assertive with them. I was, like, ‘Thank God.’ And you know what? I went to work the next day.”

Silverman and Kimmel have remained cordial since their breakup more than a decade ago, though they both admit that it took a while for the pair to get there.

“I would say that it took some time, definitely. It was never like where we didn’t like each other, hated each other or anything like that,” Kimmel said during a 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Life With Andy Cohen. “It definitely took some time to be comfortable enough to be friends again.”

Silverman feels the same and is now able to celebrate her former partner’s professional achievements.

“Oh my, God, you were f***ing so good on Hacks!” Silverman quipped on Thursday’s podcast episode. “I forgot to tell you that. Your acting was so good. I can’t believe I didn’t text you or tell you, but I’m happy I can tell you now.”

Kimmel, who recently made a cameo on the HBO comedy, eventually moved on with Molly McNearney and wed in 2013 before welcoming two children. Kimmel also shares two older children from a past relationship. Silverman, meanwhile, is currently dating Rory Albanese.
