Love Island USA fans were shocked to find out that Kordell Beckham would only be guest-starring on the spinoff Love Island USA: Beyond the Villa, but now, his girlfriend, Serena Page, is explaining why.

“At [first] he was going to do it with me. I had fully confirmed, signed the contracts and everything, and then he got booked,” Serena, 25, told Teen Vogue on Tuesday, July 8. “I was very proud of him, but I was sad and it made me very anxious about filming because I was like, ‘Damn, I’m going to be alone.’”

She continued, “Granted, I have my girls, Leah [Kateb] and JaNa [Craig], but their men were on the show doing it with them. There were a lot of times where I was like, ‘Damn, I don’t know. We’re supposed to be navigating our relationship, but you’re about to be in a whole different state. What am I going to do?’”

Serena and Kordell, 23, won season 6 of Love Island USA, choosing to share the $100,000 prize. After the season’s cast members earned the love and interest of millions of fans, it was announced that several stars would be part of the Love Island USA: Beyond the Villa main cast, including Serena, Leah, JaNa, Miguel Harichi, Kaylor Martin, Connor Newsum, Kenny Rodriguez, Olivia “Liv” Walker and Kendall Washington.

Despite Kordell only making guest appearances on the upcoming spinoff, Serena said that he did “an amazing job reassuring” her that he would join her on the show whenever possible.

“He was like, ‘Any crumb of a chance I can get, I’m going to be on that screen with you.’ And honestly, you’re going to see a lot more of him than you would’ve expected,” Serena shared. “It’s maybe [only] a handful of scenes that I’ve done without him. Y’all will get to see some behind-the-scenes of me and him working together. Y’all get to see dates. He even ends up coming to Miami, too.”

The series will document the lives of the cast members after looking for love on the reality program, with some finding The One on TV, and others still on the quest for their perfect match in the real world. For Serena and Kordell, life since winning Love Island has been pure bliss.

“I feel like we’re still in the honeymoon phase and I can’t believe that it’s been a year now,” she gushed. “It feels like we’re on cloud nine. He moved to L.A. almost immediately, and we’ve been attached at the hip.”
