Professional golfer Charley Hull was forced to withdraw from the Evian Championship on Thursday, July 10, after collapsing twice on the course.

Hull, 29, fell to the ground twice at the fourth tee box at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie, France.

She was taken off the course on a stretcher by golf buggy after she received medical treatment.

Hull was “battling a virus,” a representative for the golfer told BBC Sport. She received an IV drip at the course and did not require hospitalization.

Having started her opening round at the third major of the year at the 10th tee, Hull was one under par after 12 holes.

Hull has yet to win a major, having finished second at the Women’s Open, U.S. Women’s Open and Chevron Championship.

At the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open, Hull went viral for smoking a cigarette on the course.

“It was crazy,” Hull told the Daily Mail in August 2024. “Not really what I was expecting, but I guess it shows that any publicity is good publicity.”

However, Hull made a decision to give up smoking in March, a promise she continues to make good on.

Away from the golf course, Hull exclusively told Us Weekly in April that she had a boyfriend, but was determined to keep their relationship “private.”

“I think it’s a good thing to do,” Hull explained. “It can be hard with my job and everything.”

Given her desire to steer clear of the public eye at times, Hull commented on the intense scrutiny placed on the marriage of golfer Rory McIlroy

McIlroy, 36, filed for divorce from his wife of seven years, Erica Stoll, in May 2024, before calling off the divorce the following month.

“At the end of the day, what people say about you, whether it’s good or bad, is irrelevant,” Hull told Us. “If you’re doing something good, people always have bad things to say about you, and try to bring you down because you’re doing well.”

Hull continued, “My famous saying is, ‘People’s opinions don’t pay my bills.’ So you’ve just got to brush it off with a pinch of salt, you know what I mean?”

There is a five-way tie at the top of the leaderboard at the Evian Championship at the end of the first round. Leona Maguire, Andrea Lee, Gabriela Ruffels, Grace Kim and Jennifer Cupcho all shot a six-under 65.
