Sally Field has a list of incredible accolades to her name, but longtime fans are wondering what’s next for the Oscar-winning actress.

As it turns out, the film veteran has remained booked and busy in her 70s, as she just wrapped filming on an exciting and highly anticipated project.

For Field, working in Hollywood for more than six decades has been rewarding and full of memorable roles.

“I have had so many moments that were important,” she told Variety in March 2022 of her career. “I mean, it’s obvious that the films I had the opportunity to do were complicated, interesting work with good and strong directors.”

What Is Sally Field’s Next Film Project?

Field signed on to star in the film adaptation of Remarkably Bright Creatures, based on Shelby Van Pelt’s 2022 novel of the same name. The book spent more than 64 weeks on The New York Times best-seller list.

What Is ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ About?

The book tells the tale of a woman named Tova Sullivan who forms a friendship with Marcellus, a giant octopus who lives at the aquarium she works at. Readers also meet another character named Cameron who is on his own emotional journey of trying to find his biological father. He begins working at the aquarium, and Tova and Cameron eventually meet and bond over love and loss before discovering a family connection.

Similarly, the film’s official synopsis says, “A widow working as a night janitor at an aquarium strikes up an unlikely friendship with a giant octopus that helps her unravel the mystery of her son’s disappearance decades ago,” per IMDb.

What Is Sally Field’s Role in ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’?

Field will be playing Tova, a widow who works as a janitor at the Sowell Bay Aquarium during the night shift. Tova’s son, Erik, disappeared after going out on a boat three decades prior. Marcellus helps Tova manage her grief and seek answers about what happened to her son the night he went missing.

Who Is in the ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ Cast?

In addition to Field, Lewis Pullman, Colm Meaney, Joan Chen, Kathy Baker, Beth Grant and Sofia Black D’Elia were cast in the film. Olivia Newman serves as director.

It was announced that filming had wrapped on the movie in May 2025.

“That’s a wrap on Remarkably Bright Creatures! The feature adaptation of the bestselling book is coming soon to Netflix,” read a post shared via Netflix’s X account that featured a video of a clapperboard inside of a fish tank.

A release date has not been announced.
