Teddi Mellencamp and estranged husband Edwin Arroyave are speaking out after their home was targeted by attempted burglars.
“We are grateful that everyone is unharmed,” the pair said in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, July 22. “While we are shaken, we are fortunate to have the latest in home security systems, which scared off the intruders. Authorities were alerted and swiftly responded. We appreciate everyone’s heightened concern in light of recent criminal activities in our area, but we are safe.”
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to ABC News that a call came in around 10:15 p.m. on Monday, July 21, for a burglary with residents inside.
When police officers arrived at the home, the suspected burglars had left the property without obtaining full access.

Police claim the suspects gained entry to the property possibly through the garage. The suspects got away in a black BMW and police are looking for two males in black hooded sweatshirts.
TMZ reported that Mellencamp, 44, and Arroyave, 48, were home at the time of the incident. The home’s security system, however, immediately signaled that intruders were attempting to access the property.
Us Weekly has reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department rep for comment.

The attempted burglary comes as the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star continues receiving treatment for her cancer diagnosis. (Mellencamp first revealed she was diagnosed with stage II melanoma in October 2022. In February, the Bravo alum was diagnosed with multiple brain tumors.)
During Tuesday’s episode of iHeartRadio’s “Diamonds in the Rough” podcast, Erika Jayne and her guest cohost Matt Laughery explained why Mellencamp was unable to record the show.
“Teddi loves this podcast so much. She had an issue today where she needed to go get an MRI because she was in a little bit of pain,” Laughery explained. “She is someone that has a strong reaction to immunotherapy, so every time she gets it, it’s attacking a different part of her body. Before it was her thyroid. Now they think it’s something in her pelvic area. So that’s why she’s not here.”
Laughery assured listeners that once Mellencamp is feeling better, she will be back recapping Bravo shows, including The Real Housewives of Orange County.

“She wants to be here more than anything, but she wanted the show to go on, so that’s why I’m here filling in for her,” he said. “She’s a fighter and she sends her love to all of you.”
Mellencamp also took to social media to share an update on how she was doing.
“Love you all. Thanks for checking in,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, presumably before the attempted robbery took place. “I am not texting back but I am ok. Resting.”
