Emily in Paris has faced some surprising cast changes over the years.
The hit series, which debuted in 2020, centers around Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) and her often hilarious attempts to find her footing in France after moving from the U.S. for a new job. Emily subsequently ends up caught in a love triangle between Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).
As Emily traveled around Europe, she met many new people from season to season. But those introductions also included some exits as characters moved away or cut ties with Emily and her inner circle.
Camille Razat surprised Us when she didn’t return as Camille for season 5. The departure came after creator Darren Star teased where Camille’s story was going, telling TVLine in September 2024, “Characters can come in and out of a series, but you don’t necessarily have to see them. We may or may not. I don’t know how much of Camille we’ll see next season. But again, she’s part of the world of the series. I’m not sure how soon we’ll see her, but it doesn’t mean, again, that we won’t be seeing her.”
Which 'Emily in Paris' Stars Are — and Aren't — Returning for Season 5?
Bravo also raised eyebrows when he made comments in October 2024 about how Gabriel’s arc frustrated him in recent seasons. “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take,” Bravo told IndieWire at the time. “I’ve never been so far away from him.”
Despite Bravo hinting that he might step away from the series, he ultimately returned for season 5. Keep scrolling for a guide to other surprising exits:
Kate Walsh as Madeline

After playing Emily’s boss from Chicago, Walsh left in season 3 once her character, Madeline, had a baby and couldn’t work remotely from Paris.
Charles Martins as Mathieu

The first two seasons featured Martins as a love interest for Emily. But as Gabriel and newcomer Alfie (Laviscount) remained in the picture, Mathieu didn’t return to fight for Emily’s heart.
Camille Razat as Camille

The actress, who played Camille for four seasons, confirmed in April 2025 that she wouldn’t return.
“After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris. It has been a truly wonderful experience, one filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable memories,” Razat wrote via Instagram. “This character has meant a lot to me, and I feel that her storyline has naturally come to an end. It felt like the right moment to explore new horizons.”

Melia Kreiling as Sofia Sideris

With Camille no longer involved in the show, her love interest, Sofia, isn’t expected to remain in the mix either.
Thalia Besson as Genevieve

Amid season 5 cast changes, Besson was one of the people who didn’t sign on to return. She previously joined the show in season four as Genevieve, who developed a connection with Gabriel and complicated Emily’s life.
Rupert Everett as Giorgio

Everett claimed to Vanity Fair in an interview published in July 2025 that he won’t be returning to the show.
“I was fired,” Everett alleged to the outlet, adding, “I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, ‘Next year we’ll speak.’ waited for them to call me — but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me.”
He added, “Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end. When they write the screenplay, they think they want you — but then things change, and they lose your character. I don’t know why. For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it.”
Meanwhile, a “source close to the production” told Vanity Fair that Everett had been hired in a guest-star capacity and that his character’s story line had come “to a conclusion.”
