Julia Fox prefers to have an open-book policy when it comes to going under the knife, reflecting on the motivations that once pushed her toward getting plastic surgery.

“It’s super important when you become famous or a public figure to be transparent,” the actress, 35, told Allure in a cover story published on Tuesday, August 19, revealing that she would try to appeal to the male gaze in her younger years but has since gained a deeper appreciation for natural beauty.

“Now, when I see someone and I can tell they’ve never done anything … I wish I could go back and be that person. I was so hung up on this idea that I needed to be attractive to men so that I could survive,” Fox explained.

Fox told the publication that she began getting filler and Botox around the age of 21. During her cosmetic enhancement journey, she also underwent liposuction, a rhinoplasty and got a smile makeover with veneers.

The model said she has taken a break from getting work done but hasn’t written off the possibility of doing more in the future. “I’m just not as concerned with it right now,” she clarified.

Fox also spoke candidly about her fears of aging, noting that she has learned to feel more confident in her skin and hopes to embrace her physical changes in the years to come.

“That’s what I think I’m the most scared of, feeling old, and there are times where I feel old … Tired, over it, disillusioned,” she shared. “When you’re young and hot, it’s like that’s your identity.”

“Am I going to chase the way I used to look, or am I going to evolve and see what’s on the other side? It could be something totally different, and I’m choosing to go that way,” she declared.

Fox — who is also known for her unconventional style choices, including a butt-baring bodysuit for Coachella and a completely sheer dress at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party — said that she’s going to continue expressing herself through outfits that push fashion boundaries.

“To a New Yorker, [my style] is normal. … But I could see how someone who’s not used to that would be like, ‘What’s wrong with her? What drugs is she on? What an attention-seeking whore,” Fox said, encouraging critics to look at her sartorial choices with a different perspective. “You’ve never gone to a show, a museum, a fashion show? You’ve never opened an art book?”
